ARGYN BERTIS BI (BERDIBEK) SHANSHARULY (1633-1707 уу.)

Bertis Bi belonged to the clan of Karakesek (Bolatkoja) of Argyn tribe of the Medium Juz. His father Shanshar Bulbululy during conflict between Yessim Khan and Tursun Khan being on the side of Yessim Khan was distinct by eloquence and leadership skills. In the 17th century Bertis Shansharuly was heroically fighting in the Kazakh-Dzungar war, was a military leader, demonstrated savvy and diligence in uneasy situations. He took a direct part in the battle for the liberation of Tashkent, Balkhash and Karkaraly from the Dzungarian conquerors. He was an advisor to Tauke Khan. According to old legends Bertis Shansharuly was enthroned instead of the ousted Khan and ruled over the Tashkent territory. Bertis Shansharuly was a man of many talents, an outstanding orator, talented poet and famous Kuishi. He is the great-grandfather of the Bis and orators: Ospenbet, Bektemir, Mosheke, Kazangap, Kantai, Tontai, the famous Kuishi Tattimbet, as well as Ulzhan, Abai’s mother. A bay of Lake Balkhash, a spring in the north of the sea coast named after Bertis Bi. His descendant Tattimbet was the author of the Kui “Bertis”. According to the will of Bertis Bi, he was buried in the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmаd Yasawi in Turkestan city.
