A VALUABLE BOOK FROM THE FUND OF THE SHARHUL MUKHTASARIL UIKAYA MUSEUM

The National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve «Aziret Sultan» has an old book called «Sharhul mukhtasar-il-uikaya» (an abbreviated explanation of defense). The work is written in Arabic. Size: 14.5 x 30.5 cm, printed in Kazan in 1908. The book was presented to the museum by Imazhanov Hamit, a resident of Turkestan.
This book was printed in the printing house of the Imperial University in Kazan in 1908. The author of the book is Imam Ubeidullah. The year of birth of Imam Ubaydullah is unknown, there is a fact that he died in Hijrah 745 (in 1345). Imam Ubaydullah’s book was commented on by scholars Ali Qari and Al-Maulawiy Ilyas, recognized by Maulawiy Fakhriddin in Maverennahr.
The book describes Muslim laws taken from the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). These laws fully correspond to the ideas of the greatest of the scholars, Imam Agzam Abu Hanifa, the head of the Ahli Sunnah. The first page of the book begins with the words «Glory to Allah, who made the sages heirs of the prophets.»
In the early era of Islam, there were no religious contradictions among Muslims. Because Hazrat Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) the prophet found a solution to the problem through the Quran and his hadith. The main issues of Sharia are dealt with in the Quran and Hadith. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) He told the Islamic community, «I’ll leave you two things. If you stick to them firmly and act according to them, you will never lose your way.» This is the book of Allah, the Qur’an, and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (Muatta, Qadar, 46, II/899).»
A person’s duties to Allah are called «worship,» and his relationship with other people is called «muamalat.» The themes of ablution, prayer, alms, fasting, and pilgrimage here relate to worship. And marriage, breast-feeding, divorce, freeing a slave, and swearing in belong to the theme of muamalat.

The book consists of ten chapters.

  1. Kitab ut-taharat – Purification (ablution)
  2. Kitab us-solat Prayer
  3. Kitab uz-sunset – Zakat
  4. Kitab us-saum – Fast
