On April 2, 2025, the “Aziret Sultan” National Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum hosted the opening of the thematic exhibition “Silver Jewelry: Tradition and Ornament.”
The exhibition was inaugurated by Murat Tastanbekov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the “Aziret Sultan” National Reserve-Museum, who introduced visitors to the museum’s activities and the highlights of the exhibition. Special remarks were also delivered by master craftsman and member of the Union of Artisans of Kazakhstan, Abdreim Sultangali Temiruly; lecturer of Turkistan Ahmed Yasawi College, Maftuna Khakimzhanovna; and teacher of Secondary School No. 22 named after B. Momyshuly, Gulraushan Abuova. They emphasized the educational and cultural significance of the exhibition for youth and design students, as well as the symbolic meanings of ornaments in jewelry.
The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase, through 19th–20th century jewelry, the artistic worldview of the Kazakh people, the richness of national motifs and ornaments, and the cultural development of aesthetics and craftsmanship of that era. Silver jewelry reflects the skill, taste, and way of life of the time.
More than 200 silver items were displayed, including rings, bracelets, earrings, hair ornaments (shashbau), necklaces, amulets, clasps, and other adornments — all exquisite examples of traditional Kazakh jewelry art. Each piece represents a valuable cultural heritage embodying the history, traditions, and rich legacy of jewelry craftsmanship of our nation.
Part of the collection dates back to the 19th–20th centuries and was created in the South Kazakhstan region. These works reflect not only decorative elements but also symbolic meanings of the national worldview.
The exhibition tour was conducted by cultural event organizer Khadisha Timurkyzy. A quiz related to silver jewelry was held for students and schoolchildren, and the most active participants received printed materials of the museum-reserve as gifts.
