On May 18, the International Museum Day, a medieval lamp was installed in front of the tomb of Khoja Ahmet Yasawi.
– “Work is underway to restore the historical function of each room of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmet Yasawi of the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Azret Sultan”. On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of our country, on the International Museum Day, we are installing one of the most valuable exhibits — a pendant lamp, which was stored in the museum-reserve fund and belongs to the VI century. The lamp was once placed in the northern recess in the Kazandyk (front part) and was suspended from the arch at the entrance to the tomb,” says the director of the State Historical and Cultural Museum – Reserve “Azret Sultan” N. Akhmetzhanov.
The lamp, suspended in the XVI century, in 1993-1999, when restoration work was carried out here, was lowered down and it was possible to carefully study and examine it. Before that, no researchers or spiritual ministers moved it from its place, over time it became dark brown.
The lamp has the shape of a jug. On the sides in three places are fixed chains for hanging, there is a hook. The hook is made in the form of animals (leopards), which are also depicted on the knocker of the Kazandyk door. These three chains are attached to a round metal plate, in the center of which there is a hook.
On the side of the lamp there are inscriptions in Persian, which have historical significance. Translation: The Great of the Sultans, The testimony of Justice, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. This pendant lamp of shyraksha was donated by Hajjaj ibn Waqqas Sairami (61) to the mausoleum of the Sultan [Khoja Ahmet Yasawi] as a waqf.
