Mausoleum of Bala bi (Tamabay), 19th century

A monument of local significance, the Mausoleum of Bala Bi (Tamabay) is located in an ancient cemetery in the southeastern part of the city of Turkistan. Coordinates: 43˚17.200΄, 068˚17.035΄.

The mausoleum is a small, constructed of fired brick, single-chamber rectangular structure measuring 4.7 x 4.7 meters, topped with a dome. Its total height to the dome’s apex is 4.5 meters. Architectural details are accentuated with decorative brickwork. Forged metal grilles are installed in the door and window openings, and the interior space is plastered. The Mausoleum of Bala Bi (Tamabay) was included in the Historical and Cultural Monuments of the South Kazakhstan in 1994 under entry number 597, and has been under state protection since that time.
