“SHANYRAQ DAY”

The “Aziret Sultan” National Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum, in cooperation with the Turkistan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, organized an exhibition and cultural event themed “Nauryz Celebration and Family Values.” The event was held as part of the Nauryznama series under the title “Shanyraq Day.” On this occasion, the grand opening of the “Hall of Rare Artifacts” exhibition also took place.

The exhibition opened with traditional kuy melodies performed by the folk ensemble “Alqongyr.” The ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by Chairman of the Turkistan City Maslikhat, Gappar Amantayuly; member of the City Council of Veterans, Shora Ismoldayev; and Deputy Director of the Reserve-Museum, Nurlan Musagaliuly. Guests were introduced to the rich collection of artifacts displayed in the hall.

The festive event brought together representatives of the city administration, local intellectuals, honored mothers and elder women, museum leadership, and invited guests. Chairman of the City Maslikhat, Gappar Amantayuly, delivered a welcoming speech, congratulating all residents on Nauryz and emphasizing the importance of strengthening and promoting family values.

The program revived ancient traditions that are gradually fading from public memory, such as the “Raising of the Shanyraq” ritual, “Nauryz Blessing (Bata)”, and “Nauryz Gift”. A traditional eight-winged yurt was erected, newlyweds received well-wishes, elders bestowed the sacred Nauryz bata, and exemplary families along with children were presented with Nauryz-bazarlyk commemorative gifts.

Veteran council member Shora Ismoldayev noted in his address that Nauryz has long been a traditional national celebration deeply rooted in the life of the people, while the shanyraq represents not only an element of the yurt but also a sacred symbol of generational continuity, unity, and harmony.

Deputy Director of the Reserve-Museum, Nurlan Musagaliuly, expressed special gratitude to the Turkistan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore for their active contribution to the successful organization of the joint event and presented them with commemorative gifts.
