Today, the “Azret Sultan” National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve hosted the official opening of the thematic exhibition titled “O. Dastanov: Guardian of Heritage”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Orynby Dastanov—an Honored Cultural Worker of Kazakhstan, talented poet, prose writer, and playwright of Turkistan.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including:
•Öskenbay Täshenov – Honored Cultural Figure of Kazakhstan, recipient of the International Atatürk Gold Medal, and professor.
•Äziretbergenov Jarylkasý – Chairman of the Veterans’ Council of Turkistan Region and son-in-law of O. Dastanov.
•Maqsut Atambaev – Close relative of O. Dastanov and Honorary Citizen of Turkistan.
•Nurbakh Turaruly Rustemov – Former Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Iran, Romania, North Macedonia, and Hungary, as well as a former Member of Parliament.
•Janar Amangeldikyzy – Rector of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
•Shora Esmoldaev – Member of the Turkistan City Elders’ Council.
•O. Dastanov’s family members, including his daughters Ulbosyn, Raushan, Dastanova, and his wife Jadyra Orynbasarova.
•Veterans, contemporaries, museum directors, cultural and historical experts, and media representatives.
HONORING A LIFETIME OF CULTURAL PRESERVATION
The opening remarks were delivered by Mäulen Jarylkasynuly, Director of the “Azret Sultan” Museum-Reserve. He highlighted O. Dastanov’s invaluable contributions to Turkistan, particularly his dedication to preserving the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum. He emphasized the importance of showcasing the legacy of historical figures like Dastanov, ensuring that their life’s work and moral values continue to inspire future generations.
Friends, colleagues, and relatives of O. Dastanov shared precious memories and reflections on his contributions.

•Rare literary works by O. Dastanov, including “Aziret Turkistan,” “The Truth About Sacred Places,” and “Aziret Sultan.”
•Archival documents from his personal and professional life.
•Memorabilia, including photographs from his years of service and personal belongings.
A CELEBRATION OF ARTISTIC AND SPIRITUAL HERITAGE
The goal of the exhibition is to introduce the public to O. Dastanov’s life and creative legacy, highlighting his unwavering commitment to preserving Kazakhstan’s spiritual heritage. Despite the challenges of his era, he remained devoted to his homeland—Turkistan, and dedicated his poetry to honoring Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. Through his work, he promoted integrity, morality, and national values, leaving behind a lasting cultural legacy for younger generations.
The event also featured performances by young talents from the “Körkemsöz” and “Jas Leader” literary clubs, who recited powerful excerpts from O. Dastanov’s poetry, captivating the audience with the depth of his words.
A HISTORIC FIRST IN 40 YEARS
Notably, this is the first exhibition dedicated to O. Dastanov since his retirement 40 years ago, making it a landmark cultural event.
The exhibition will be open to the public for nearly two months, welcoming both residents and visitors of Turkistan.
